Home elevators: residential, custom-built, anywhere in Mexico
A home elevator is a residential unit with 2 to 6 stops and 250 to 450 kg of capacity, installed inside or outside the house, often with no machine room and a shallow pit. At Karu Elevators® we design it around your space and budget, with a free technical visit.

What types of home elevators are there?
The three most common types for homes are hydraulic elevators, machine-room-less traction elevators and stair or wheelchair platform lifts. The right choice depends on the number of floors, the space available and who will use it.
- Hydraulic: smooth and very reliable; ideal for 2 to 4 floors.
- Machine-room-less traction: more energy efficient and suited to more stops.
- Panoramic glass: installed in courtyards, facades or double-height spaces as part of the design.
- Wheelchair platform: an accessibility solution for people with disabilities or seniors.
How much does a home elevator cost in Mexico?
The price of a home elevator depends on five factors: number of stops, type of unit (hydraulic or electric), capacity, cabin finishes and the construction work needed (pit and shaft). That is why we quote each project after a free technical visit.
- Stops and total travel
- Hydraulic, traction or platform
- Capacity (people or wheelchair)
- Cabin: glass, stainless steel, wood
- Construction: shaft, pit and power supply
If you are looking for an affordable home elevator, the most effective levers are the number of stops, the cabin and the construction work; we show you options side by side so you can decide.
What dimensions does a home elevator need?
A residential elevator can fit in a shaft of around 1.2 × 1.2 m, and there are models with a shallow pit or no deep pit at all. Exact dimensions depend on capacity, door type and whether a wheelchair must fit.
During the technical visit we measure your space and give you a drawing with the shaft, pit and top-floor height dimensions.
How do you choose an elevator for a small house?
For a small house, a machine-room-less elevator with a shallow pit and automatic or swing doors (depending on space) works best. First decide how many people will ride and whether a wheelchair must fit; that sets the cabin size.
- Define the users: seniors, wheelchair, groceries
- Check where the shaft fits: inside, courtyard or facade
- Prefer units with automatic rescue during power outages
- Secure a maintenance contract from day one
Elevators for people with disabilities and seniors
A home elevator lets someone with reduced mobility or in a wheelchair reach every floor independently. We recommend cabins with room for the wheelchair, low-mounted buttons, handrails and precise leveling so there is no step at the door.
Residential elevators for coastal villas
On beaches and in humid areas such as Los Cabos, Cancún or Puerto Peñasco we recommend stainless steel and anti-corrosion treatments, plus regular preventive maintenance, because salt air speeds up wear.
We answer your questions
Choosing or maintaining an elevator calls for clarity and trust. If you would like to talk your case through with an advisor, message or call us.
How much does a home elevator cost?
It depends on stops, unit type, capacity, finishes and construction work. We do a free technical visit and give you a quote with options for your budget.
Can an elevator be added to an existing house?
Yes. It is very common to install one in an existing home: inside a stairwell, in a courtyard or attached to the facade as a panoramic elevator.
How much electricity does a home elevator use?
Very little: modern residential units use efficient motors and only draw power while moving. Traction units with variable frequency drives are the most efficient.
What happens if the power goes out with someone inside?
Our residential elevators can include automatic rescue: during a power cut the unit lowers to the nearest stop and opens the doors.
How long does installation take?
It depends on the model and the site. Our proposal includes a schedule from manufacturing to commissioning.
